7 Church Trends that are Turning Visitors Away

Church Trends that are Turning Visitors Away

In today’s word of Christianity, there is new gospel coming up. Paul warned the Galatians about ‘different’ gospels:
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel.

 Galatians 1:6 | KJV

The gospel focuses on self achievement. It tells you to believe in your self instead on relying on God. Believing in self is good but taking God out of the agenda is self actualization. This is called the gospel of prosperity.
Gospel today is used to manipulate members of the church today instead of edifying the church at large.

Sermons and messages suppose to ignite fire in church congregation. Sermons preached by pastors today are not the truth. Pastor knows the bible but they are afraid of members leaving their church.

The more you dilute your messages for the fear of members leaving, the more you lose members.

I will be dropping 7 reasons why members leave churches today, all pastors should watch out for this so it can be corrected.

1. Church Leaders Preaches Diluted Messages

A church leader share on one of his messages saying, in the school of disciple and bible college I attend, we were taught that if we want members to troop into our churches, we need to do advertisements, go on air, post billboard, go on internet since the world is going technology wise. While this is partly true, you as a pastor can testify that it is not too effective.
The man of God said I will rather still in the dark with little or no crowd than try on my own effort to increase church members.
That man of God is Apostle Arome Osayi. He is well known today even more than those that do media publishing.
If the Lord call you into ministry, stop trying to help him, instead, seek him and he will assist you.

2. Becoming too friendly with the congregation

The mistake many follow-up teams made is, they want to know where new visitors work, if they are married, single, or divorced. The number of kids they have. Where they last vacationed. If this is how your follow-up team or you as a pastor i, stop it. Stop trying so hard. Being overly-friendly repels visitors. a visitor will   say “Let me ease in slowly. Don’t bombard me with ministry opportunities immediately. I want to learn from the incredible message your pastor delivers. Realize I’ve left a church which hurt my heart a while back, it’s just going to take time for me to trust again.” “Some friendships do not last, but some friends are more loyal than brothers,” – (Proverbs 18:24)

3.  An Inhospitable and unfriendly church.

Your church lacks people of all ages. This makes a cut in flow to appear or your church is too cold, members listen to sermons, no diversities in the church. This happen when people even the pastor is too busy to role with members. So to contain this, you can tell all members shake hands with one another, even a warm and presidential greeting from the usher do the work of making the visitor feel at home. No one like to be ignored. Maybe strike up a conversation which didn’t revolve around you. “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling” – (I Peter 4:9).

4. Fashion-competing church.

The pastor hair looks obvious. The pastor’s wife’s wears ‘too-tight’ jeans, a hairstyle which, quite frankly, doesn’t work with her age.You started losing visitors because new members started thinking if they’ll need to invest in a new wardrobe. I am not against fashion but It’s that we want to use our talents and spiritual gifts and what we’re NOT wearing shouldn’t get in the way of doing Kingdom work. I don’t want trends, I want friends. Proverbs 16:18 reminds us:“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

5. The anything go church

This church find out scripture and even experiences to back up the world quoting “as far the crowd are doing it, it is okay”. They church old or new members tell you this is how it is done in the urban churches today, even a church at USA presently allow sex before marriage to tell both intending couple potency and on the list. This church will tell you what the world does is okay. Sadly, this church is exchanging foolishness for wisdom. “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they They became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened,” (Romans 1:21). Satan, the god of this world is deceiving believers into accepting worldly and cultural trends. It is a good thing that believers show love and compassion to everyone. We should stop manipulating His Word for the sake of what the world deems lawful and acceptable.

6. The church where spiritual growth is hard to achieve

People are hungry for words which empower and equip. People need authentic hope. Churches today place holiness as a thing impossible, beside this it member feels like there are those that are spiritual unlike we carnal christian. I was discussing with a member in my home church and she was like you spiritual christian should make the plan for the year while we that are not spiritual should watch and keep shut. I felt sad and angry in the spirit. Don’t wait until they’ve proven themselves. Remember, Christ called his disciples immediately. “Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”Mark 2:17. I think pastor should lay more emphases on spiritual growth, letting the new members as well as the unbelievers know that are accepted and can be a firebrand instead of always hitting sermon on hellfire and doom. this messages are good but they condemn people not only those that are unsaved but those that are saved don’t know how to grow in Christ. Then they say I’m no longer interested in listening to sermons which amp up your righteousness and make  me unrighteous. I’m broken…hurting. I’m close to giving up. Don’t turn me away on account of my outfit or skin color or thick accent. I’m heartsick

7.  Pastors Promoting Their Books

Nowadays it’s rare to find a pastor who isn’t also an author. Most pastors promote their books behind the pulpit. However well his intention he may be, he risks being viewed as one advertising his business. A pastor should be sensitive to these things. It is okay of he reference his material but it shouldn’t be too much.

Even if the pastor is beloved and trusted by his congregation, newbies have yet to make this connection, joking that they showed up to an author’s book tour instead of a church.

In all, some members won’t add anything positive to a ministry because everyone is place under a ministry. As long as the member is not under the right ministry, no matter hsi/her intention he/she would end  up adding nothing to that ministry. This is why prayer is important.

PRAYER: Father bring unto me members that will ease my burden and labour in Jesus name.
