The summary of the Sermon on the Mount describes what our life should be like while we live in this Christian faith, even in our thinking, words, and the way we acts. Jesus said six times in Chapter 5, “You have heard it said”, or “But I tell you.” He was calling people to a new life instead of a legal system, that the Pharisees had put upon the people.

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying…

Summary of the sermon on the mount

In this article, I will paraphrase/summary of the sermon on the mount.

Let us say a word of prayer:

Father, open up the eyes of our understanding to see the truth behind your words in Jesus name.

Matthew 5:3-12

Jesus was teaching in the following verses that the first thing which bring a man/woman into the kingdom of God is Salvation. God continually use a man/woman when the man get to understand he/she is nothing without God.

‘Happy are the people who know that they need God very much. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like that.

Matthew 5:3 EASY

Jesus then continued saying happy are those!!! These people include all that is suffering for the sake of the gospel. Christ assured that their sacrifice won’t be forgotten.

Sacrifices of the Saints who laboured would be rewarded by God.

Matthew 5:13-16

This is one important teaching because it has to do with your identity. Jesus shared a secret “you are” the salt of the world – people taste salts and use salt. This statement means as a salt you are a problem solver, a peace bringer. Jesus was saying go into the world and solve people’s problems.

You would definitely assume the statute of a god when you solve the problems of people.

Remember the Lord said “for YE are gods, the son of the most high” (Psalm 82:6).

You must be sure that your light shines well. Then you will give light to other people. They will see all the good things that you do. Then they will praise God, who is your Father in heaven .’

Matthew 5:16 EASY

Matthew 5:17-20

We have about 613 laws in the Bible. Many Bible scholars are in agreement that there are 613 Commandments in the Old Testament; 248 Positive Commandments and 365 Negative Commandments.

It is impossible to know all these commandments not to talk of fulfilling them all. Jesus told us important here I have fulfilled all the law. He admonishes us to live our life rightly.

I tell you this. You must always do what is right. You must live in a way that is better than the teachers of God’s Law and the Pharisees . You will never come into the kingdom of heaven if you do not do better than them.’

Matthew 5:20 EASY

Matthew 5:21-26

Jesus taught people about anger. He told us to avoid anger as much as possible. In the case where we could not avoid it, we should forgive and forget as soon as possible. We shouldn’t let the sun go down on our anger.

Anger can prevent ones breakthrough

You must leave your gift there in front of God’s altar . First you must go and find your brother. Tell him that you are sorry. Then you can both become friends with each other again. After that, you can return to the altar and give your gift to God.

Matthew 5:24 EASY

Matthew 5:27-30

Jesus emphasizes the need of remaining and being pure. He taught here that we should flee from sins.

Jesus said we should do no wrong thing. So devil won’t have anything against us.

Also, if your right hand leads you to do wrong things, then you should cut it off. You should throw it away. You will lose one hand. But it will be much worse if you keep your body in one piece and go to hell .’

Matthew 5:30 EASY

Matthew 5:31-33

Jesus said the only time divorce in marriage is permitted is when one of the couple is caught in the act of fornication or sexual immorality.

But what I tell you is this. If a man’s wife has had sex with another man, he may send her away. But if he sends her away for any other reason, he has done a wrong thing. It is like he is making her have sex with another man. Also, if a woman has left her husband, another man must not marry her. That is the same as if he had sex with another man’s wife.’
Matthew 5:32 EASY

Matthew 5:34-48

Jesus in this passage taught people about the promises of God. He also taught on how anyone can get to love God. He attributed endurance, ability to bare others, forgiveness, doing good to fellow humans as a prove that a man love God.
